AAIE Conference Update

Remember the date:  April 19, 2012

AAIE CONFERENCE to be held at the University of Alabama Bryant Conference Center in Tuscaloosa, Alabama

The University of Alabama will be hosting the Alabama Association of International Educators (AAIE) conference, in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, Thursday, April 19, 2012 at the Bryant Conference Center--mark your calendars!  In consideration of shrinking travel budgets, all sessions will be held in a single day.  Plans are underway to have an informative and varied agenda.

The keynote speaker will be Dr. Art Dunning, UA Vice Chancellor for International Programs and Outreach.  Dr. Dunning advises the Chancellor on opportunities to further build the University of Alabama System’s international programs, to strengthen bases of academic and research partnerships, and to expand economic development initiatives.  The conference will begin with Mr. David Ware, immigration attorney with David Ware and Associates, LLC, addressing the new AL HB-56 law.  In addition, representatives from the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) will offer updated information on SEVIS and SEVIS II.  Topics discussed in this session will include schedule, visualization, transition, and policy-SEVIS II relationships.  Ample time for questions will be allotted for all sessions.

We also want to have sessions covering a wide range of topics such as disaster preparation case studies to share lessons learned from the recent tornadoes, risk management in Study Abroad, current trends affecting English as a Second Language Programs as well as a presentation on events and community activities for international students.  An email will go out this month with complete details and instructions on how to submit a conference session proposal.  Don’t miss this opportunity to share your experience with your fellow Alabama colleagues and especially with newcomers to the international field.

We are working on arranging room discounts for attendees who plan to stay the night before or following the conference. Travel grants are available.  Details for travel grant applications and information on room discounts will be emailed to you in the near future and will be added to the AAIE blog site.

Attend the conference and build relationships to expand your peer network and return to your campus with insights and solutions you can rely on throughout the year.  We  look forward to seeing everyone at the conference and having you enjoy The University of Alabama campus and beautiful Tuscaloosa at the peak of spring.    So mark your calendar for April 19, 2012, AAIE Conference at the Bryant Conference Center.
